The procedures for processing a report are set out in the Police Act and in our Directive on filing a report.
Before filing a report
- Consult the Can we handle your report? page and the Handling your report section to determine whether a police ethics report is the appropriate recourse for you.You can also watch this short video that explains the difference between the recourses available to the Commissioner (please, activate the subtitles).
- Gather evidence. The report must be accompanied by all the evidence you have in relation to the event or situation you wish to report.
Ways file a report
- Fill in the online report form yourself.
- In some situations, you can also file a report orally with a member of the Commissioner's staff.
- By making an appointment by phone to complete the online report or to submit it orally. You can do this by contacting us at 514 864-1784 (Montreal area), 418 643-7897 (Quebec City area) or 1 877 237-7897 (other areas).
- By contacting a human rights or community organization that offers assistance in filing a police ethics report.
